Martin Sedgwick Head of Asset Management, Scottish Power Generation
ScottishPower – The Journey to Operations and Maintenance Excellence
(and attaining PAS 55 compliance)
Request the video replay of the presentation here (specify the session title).
Much interest is being generated in organizations successfully moving towards compliance with Asset Management Standard PAS 55 and how they are achieving compliance. BSI Publicly Available Specification 55 (PAS 55-1:2008 & PAS 55-2:2008) or PAS 55, originally published in May 2004, was the first Publicly Available Specification for the optimal management of physical assets. PAS 55 has been implemented within a variety of industry sectors spanning public utilities, gas storage and transportation, rail, oil and gas exploration and extraction and now power generation. To comply, companies must follow a stringent process of assessment which benchmarks best practice in asset management.
Martin Sedgwick, Head of Asset Management at ScottishPower Generation, will discuss the journey to PAS 55 compliance & how the Ivara Work Smart® Methodology and the enabling technology of Ivara EXP assisted in achieving compliance. Learn how the team ingrained a sustainable process for asset management and ensured process safety. Martin will outline the framework for ScottishPower’s Maintenance and Operations Strategy, including a new risk based approach to asset management. He will also discuss the timing and critical success factors to reach PAS 55 compliance.

How the Ivara Work Smart Methodology and EXP Technology Support Asset Management Standard PAS 55
Request the video replay of the presentation here (specify the session title).
The Ivara Work Smart Methodology and EXP software enable capital-intensive companies to comply with emerging standards and regulatory challenges in the power industry as well as other capital-intensive industries. Ivara enables a living reliability-based asset management program based on risk and consequence of failure that delivers optimal asset performance, increases profitability and compliance to regulations and standards.
PAS 55 is a published standard for physical asset management developed by a multi-sector initiative across 10 countries, backed by the British Standards Institute. It’s purpose is to ensure (and be able to demonstrate) that assets deliver their required function in a cost-effective manner without negatively impacting safety or the environment. PAS 55 is already being adopted by industry regulators in the UK as a requirement checklist for demonstrating good governance. All electricity and gas distributors in the UK must already demonstrate PAS 55 compliance; railway, water and other sectors are following. The conversion to a full ISO standard is already in the planning stages.
Several organizations in North America are already using PAS 55 as an assessment tool to help develop robust, sustainable plans. Learn how Ivara's approach to asset management is aligned with PAS 55 and how Ivara EXP can be used to contribute to compliance with PAS 55.

Terrence O'Hanlon, CMRP, Publisher,
Reliabilityweb.com, Uptime Magazine
KEYNOTE ADRESS: A System for Reliability Transformation
Tuesday, April 21, 10:00 am ET
Understanding the complex interrelationships of maintenance and reliability within a system and their interactive effects enables management to develop methods to optimize the system to accomplish its aims.
Our system of profound knowledge is a theory for reliability transformation. Transformation begins with the acquisition of knowledge. Knowledge enables management to understand why transformation is necessary and how to achieve it. This knowledge enables management to conceptualize enterprise reliability as a system with a purpose and future; to understand why certain management practices are ineffective and must be discontinued. This knowledge:
- enables a system that allows people to cooperate and work together.
- demonstrates how to build and support high self esteem.
- allows you to build a culture for learning throughout the enterprise.
Join Terrence O’Hanlon, Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional, for an informative discussion on how maintenance and reliability managed at your organization can improve the results produced. Transformation is possible if you operate in the context of the system of knowledge. Without it – transformation and change are uphill battles that fail much more often than succeed.

What's New in Ivara EXP Enterprise Release 5.1
Tuesday, April 21, 12:00 noon ET
Ivara Enterprise 5.1.3 is scheduled for release at the end of April. Attend this session to discover the value of some of the key new features in Ivara EXP 5.1 including:
- Condition Indicator Mass Update - if you thought implementing RCM was easy in EXP, wait until you see this powerful new feature. As your use of indicators matures, you will want to add more detail, perhaps add or modify states, or change from manually collecting to automating using PDM technology. This powerful feature allows you to easily and quickly apply changes to selected indicators en masse. With just a few clicks, you can copy the states, collection frequency, and PdM Technology from a particular indicator and apply them to a group of other indicators.
- Failure Mode Copy with Smart Asset Matching - reliability strategy development and implementation has never been easier now that Ivara has enhanced the Failure Mode/Maintenance Action Plan copy functions to support smart asset mapping. When you have several instances of an asset structure (eg several of the same type of haul truck), you can quickly create a reliability analysis base which may be reviewed and modified for the asset’s current operating context. Mapping is stored for easy re-use in future copies. Spend time developing and implementing additional action plans rather than entering and copying data..
- Ivara Mobile.NET - Also featured in this session is the latest in Ivara's mobile solutions. Enabling a mobile asset care workforce is an important part of the Ivara solution. Attend to see how Ivara Mobile.NET provides a new user interface that enhances data accuracy, efficiency in collection of the data and integrity of the data entered by the mobile user.

PAS 55: What is it, and how fast will this standard for asset management spread across North America?
Wednesday, April 22, 10:00 am ET
Attend this session to learn about PAS 55 - the published standard for physical asset management developed by a multi-sector initiative across 10 countries, backed by the British Standards Institute. PAS 55 defines Asset Management as much more than just good maintenance and reliability – it challenges organisations to optimize value-for-money over the whole life cycle, and is proving to be a valuable bridge between the technical/engineering view of the business and the commercial, regulatory or customer-service perspectives.
PAS is already being adopted by industry regulators as a requirement checklist of demonstrating good governance. All electricity and gas distributors in the UK must already demonstrate PAS 55 compliance; railway, water and other sectors are following. Several organisations in North America are already using PAS 55 as an assessment tool to help develop robust, sustainable plans into the future, and the conversion to a full ISO standard is already in the planning stages.
Learn how to address the challenges and uncertainties about holistic asset management, quantifying risks and life cycle values, achieving sustainable, continuous improvement, and implementing and integrating the necessary ‘enabler’ tools. Learn how Ivara EXP, for example, can be used to contribute to compliance with PAS 55.

Henry Ellmann, Renowned Reliability Guru, President, Ellmann, Sueiro y Asociados, Management Consulting and Industrial Engineering Services Group
Topic: Success or Failure with Reliability?
Why some implementations fail and how to avoid failure.
Wednesday, April 22, 1:00 pm ET
Many years of implementing reliability programs at hundreds of sites shows that success follows a Gauss Curve Pattern —some programs are highly successful, most are “satisfactory” and some fail... if the same tools show such variable outcomes, it becomes evident that the reason this happens does not reside in the tool itself, but rather in how it is applied.
Implementing reliability successfully implies following rigorously all steps of a proven process.
Like liquid through a pipe, as long as there is flow of liquid out of the pipe, it is deemed as somehow successful, even if the pipe is partially clogged and only a part of the expected liquid is retrieved. In a process, any single link that fails, renders the process useless.Hear Henry Ellmann, in his usual spectacular way, show why and how ALL reliability programs can be successful and satisfy the highest expectations, as they should. Join in a lively discussion following the presentation.
